We Tell Stories, LA’s acclaimed children’s storytelling theatre company, celebrates the County of Los Angeles Library's Summer Reading Program, “Be Creative @ Your Library,” with 8 different performances about creativity and imagination at the Culver City Julian Dixon Library. Shows are interactive, multi-cultural, and educational blending laughter and literacy together for fun-filled afternoons for parents and children alike.
The Culver City Julian Dixon Library is located at 4975 Overland Avenue, Culver City 90230. Performances are every Wednesday at 2 pm from July 1st through August 19th and are 45-minutes long. Admission is free.
“Be Creative @ Your Library” Performance Schedule
- Wednesday, July 1 at 2 pm
- “Flying” - Stories about flight including the famous Greek myth “Daedalus and Icarus.”
- Wednesday, July 8 at 2 pm
- “Music”– A French fable, an African American rap poem, and an African folktale entertain with musical elements.
- Wednesday, July 15 at 2 pm
- “Riddles” – British, Nordic, and Chinese stories that tickle the mind.
- Wednesday, July 22 at 2 pm
- “Creation Myths” – Multi-cultural myths that ancients told about the beginning of the world.
- Wednesday, July 29 at 2 pm
- “How & Why?”– Charming ‘Pourquoi’ folktales from Greece, Africa, and Vietnam that explain natural phenomena.
- Wednesday, August 5 at 2 pm
- “Tricksters” - Chronicles of fun-loving tricksters from around the world
- Wednesday, August 12 at 2 pm
- “Magic” – Tales from Japan, Nicaragua, and Columbia with magical creatures.
- Wednesday, August 19 at 2 pm
- “Fiesta La Ballona” – Stories that celebrate Culver City’s heritage.
In unique We Tell Stories fashion, actors unfurl imaginative costumes and props from an old steamer trunk and the fun begins. Audience members participate from their seats, then join actors on stage to play an integral part in the performance. Parents and kids delight in this family activity that is both entertaining, as well as culturally enriching.
With a repertoire of twelve "trunk shows," WTS brings classic literature and folk tales to life in classrooms, theatres, schools, museums, festivals, special events, and libraries. We Tell Stories’ goals are to inspire creativity, enhance literacy, cultivate intercultural awareness and harmony, and spark a love of the theatre and spoken word. Since 1981, WTS has been promoting arts education in schools throughout the Southland with assembly programs, and student & professional development workshops.
